Synopsis:

Fundamentals of Molecular Virology is a well-recognized textbook. It covers various topics related to viruses, including their discovery and identification, structure and assembly, taxonomy, entry mechanisms, and specific families such as picornaviruses and flaviviruses

The latest edition of Fundamentals of Molecular Virology covers various topics related to viruses, including the molecular structures of important virus protein components, viral replication in intracellular membrane structures, and viruses' ability to evade innate immunity. Further proposed changes include updating the content with new developments in the field, adding new viruses to tables and chapters, and including new diagnostic and therapeutic techniques. For example, the book will cover the use of phages in bacterial therapy, the receptors for several picornaviruses, and new antiviral drugs being developed for flaviviruses. The book will also describe the techniques used to identify viruses, such as electron microscopy, monoclonal antibodies, and PCR.

It also now discusses outbreaks of emerging viruses, new antivirals and vaccines, and the re-emergence of old virus foes due to lapses in vaccination. Other topics include oncolytic viruses and their potential in cancer therapy, marine, insect, and plant viruses, the roles of miRNA's in viral infections, virus-mediated gene therapy, and how proteomics, genomics, and computational biology have impacted current research. Chapter will includes a section on fundamental concepts, review questions at the end of each chapter, and a box outlining current research directions.
