Synopsis:
One of the emerging technologies in electroencephalography is ambulatory monitoring. The Atlas of Ambulatory Electroencephalography presents specific EEG waveforms, both normal and abnormal, as they appear from ambulatory EEG machines. It is structured in a similar way to existing EEG atlases for routine EEG machines. Introductory sections discuss the range of modern ambulatory EEG systems and current clinical practices using this equipment, including montage and electrode selection, recording parameters and playback. Contributors to these sections include the developers of much of this technology. The rest of the volume includes specific examples selected by experienced electroencephalographers which illustrate the appearance of normal and abnormal EEG patterns as seen with current widely-used ambulatory EEG equipment. Montages are labled and the calibration of time and amplitude are clearly marked. Normal EEG morphologies, normal variants, transient EEG abnormalities and electroencephalographic seizures are included, with examples from both continuous and discontinuous systems. Examples from inpatient monitoring and studies using depth electrodes are also included. A section of EEG patterns without accompanying explanation tests the reader's ability to interpret the waveforms and answers are given in a separate section.
