Learning disabilities are neurological disorders that affect the brain's ability to process, store, and communicate information. They are widespread, affecting as many as one out of every five people in the United States, according to the U.S. Department of Education. In 2015-16, the number of students ages 3-21 receiving special education services was 6.7 million, or 13 percent of all public school students.
